Persimmon Homes Golf Day
PSS were invited to the annual Persimmon Homes South Midlands Golf day. Representing PSS (Midlands) Ltd. were Nigel White MD, Contractor Managers Pete Rooke, Richard Wright and Customer Care Manager Gareth McGriele.
It started like any other day but with gathering storms thunder and lighting it was difficult to see if the day would go ahead.
However after several bacon rolls, several cups of coffee and the odd pint the weather began to improve. Thanks to the determination and professional team work of Persimmon Homes and the Golf Club we were set to begin although a little later than originally planned.
The PSS team teed off in an enthusiastic mood but with Nigel White severely handicapped, he forgot his 5 wood, although allegedly stolen by his son.
In very sweltering conditions the team battled against amazing odds but with a tremendous joint effort and determination were scoring well. There were several team highlights with Pete Rooke coming very close to the nearest the pin on the fourteenth, Richard Wright just loosing out on the longest drive on the ninth, a mammoth drive by Gareth McGriele on the 18th and not to mention a gallant effort by Nigel White just hitting the pin on the 18th with a long chip in.
The team entered the club house at the end of the round feeling quite confident with 99 points from the best two scores. After a refreshing shower and a change of clothes and some liquid refreshment the Persimmon dinner began. The whole day was a charity event in aid of Marie Curie Cancer Relief.
The dinner went extremely well with the customary speeches and an auction event to raise further monies for the well deserved charity. After many auctions which included Nigel White successfully biding for a golf day for two at the Belfry Golf course the final tally was a magnificent sum of £30,000 being raised, well done to all.
Finally the prizes were announced and after many categories the winner of the main competition was announced, some bandits with 105 points were outright winners, 101 points took second position and PSS (Midlands) Ltd. came third with 99 points. In the words of Richard Wright ‘we were ******* robbed’.
Thanks to Persimmon Home South Midlands for a wonderful day but we will be back next year with a full set of clubs.
